How to use Promptense
Promptense turns a plain “I need help with…” into a clear, complete prompt you can paste into any AI assistant — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and the rest. You answer a few friendly questions; Promptense writes the well-structured prompt for you. No prompt-engineering know-how required.
Two ways to build a prompt
⚡ Quick Prompt
A short, guided wizard. Best when you just want a good prompt fast. Free forever.
🧩 Prompt Builder
A full workspace with reusable templates and fill-in blanks. Best for bigger or repeat tasks where you want to shape exactly how the AI behaves.
⚡ Quick Prompt — the 60-second prompt
Pick Quick Prompt at the top of the app. You’ll move through a few small steps, and a Live preview builds your prompt as you go so you always see what you’re making.
- Pick what you want to do. Choose from eight everyday goals — Write something, Fix or improve text, Draft a message or email, Brainstorm ideas, Explain something, Plan or organize, Code / tech, or Something else.
- Say what you need. One or two sentences in plain words — e.g. “ask my landlord to fix the leaking kitchen faucet.” Don’t overthink it.
- Who is it for? Just me · A friend or family · My boss or team · Customers / clients · Students / kids · General public.
- What tone? Professional, Friendly, Casual, Persuasive, Warm, Funny, or Plain & simple.
- How should it look? Let the AI decide (“However’s best”), or choose a short answer, bullet points, step-by-step, a table, options, an email/letter, or long & detailed.
- See your prompt. Give it a name, then Copy it (paste into your AI) or Save to library to reuse later.
Worked example
Goal Draft a message or email → “ask my landlord to fix the leaking kitchen faucet” → for Just me → Professional tone → An email or letter. Promptense hands you:
I'd like your help writing an email. Here's what I need: ask my landlord to fix the leaking kitchen faucet. It's for my own use. Please use a professional tone. Write it as a complete, ready-to-send email.
Copy that, paste it into your AI, and you’ll get a polished, ready-to-send email — instead of a vague one-liner.
🧩 Prompt Builder — full control + reusable templates
Pick Prompt Builder at the top. Instead of steps, you get a set of fields. Fill in only the ones you care about — every field is optional, and the Live preview updates as you type.
What each field does
- Role — who the AI should act as. “a seasoned copywriter,” “a patient math tutor.”
- Background — context it should know before starting.
- Task — what you actually want it to do. This is the heart of the prompt.
- Audience — who the result is for.
- Style — how it should be written (like an expert, conversational, storytelling…).
- Tone — the mood (friendly, professional, funny…).
- Format — the shape of the answer (bullets, table, email, step-by-step…).
- Must-follow rules — hard do’s and don’ts. “No jargon. End with one call to action.”
Drop in ready-made pieces
Click + Add Template to open the library and insert professionally-written pieces into your fields, so you’re never staring at a blank box:
- Roles — ready personas for the Role field.
- Templates — starter task prompts.
- Background — reusable context blocks.
- Codes — behavior tweaks (ELI10, step-by-step, red-team…).
- Negatives — common “don’ts” (no jargon, no filler…).
Use the Insert into menu to pick which field a piece lands in. Insert as many as you like — each one drops into place, and the button shows “Inserted ✓” so you can’t add it twice. Click Close when you’re done.
Fill-in blanks — the reusable magic
Any {{like_this}} in a field is a fill-in blank. Click the blank (right in the
field, in the Live preview, or the chip beneath the fields), type your value, and hit Insert —
it fills that blank everywhere at once, with the spacing sorted out for you. That’s what makes a saved
prompt a template you can re-run with new details next time.
Worked example
Role friendly B2B copywriter, Background we sell a time-tracking app for small agencies, Task write a 120-word cold email to an agency owner, Audience Customers / clients, Style in plain, simple language, Tone Friendly, Format An email or letter, Rules no jargon, and end with one clear call to action. Promptense assembles:
Act as a friendly B2B copywriter. Some background: we sell a time-tracking app for small agencies. What I'd like you to do: write a 120-word cold email to an agency owner. This is for customers or clients. Write it in plain, simple language. Keep the tone friendly. Write it as a complete, ready-to-send email. A few musts: no jargon, and end with one clear call to action.
Save it as “Cold outreach,” and next time just change the Task or a fill-in blank — the structure is already done.
Copy vs. Save
Copy is always available — grab your prompt and paste it into any AI, on any plan. Save to library keeps a prompt (and its versions) in your account so you can find, edit, and reuse it later.
Free vs. Pro
- Free — Quick Prompt is yours forever, and you get a trial run of the Prompt Builder to see the difference. Copy anything you make.
- Pro — unlocks the full Prompt Builder, the template library and fill-in blanks, and saving prompts to your personal library. Monthly or yearly.
A few tips
- Start simple. A goal and a plain-language task already make a solid prompt — add tone and format only if they matter.
- Watch the Live preview. It’s the exact text you’ll copy — tweak until it reads right.
- Save your winners. When a prompt works well, save it — then reuse it with new details instead of starting over.
- Reuse with blanks. Turn a good prompt into a template with
{{blanks}}and re-run it in seconds.
